Growth modification treatment is utilized in the first phase of a two-stage interceptive orthodontic treatment for children with misaligned teeth and bites. During the growth modification process, we use special appliances to correct the shape, position, and/or width of the jaw bone(s). Growth modification is used when bones are still in the growing process and is most effective during a child’s growth spurts.

Interceptive Orthodontics identifies children’s teeth that are coming in crooked or crowded, usually by the age of 7. This is the best time to begin to correct problems such as dental crowding, too much space between teeth, protruding teeth and extra or missing teeth and sometimes jaw growth problems. By creating the necessary room for teeth early on, you can significantly reduce or even completely avoid the time and cost necessary for orthodontics later in life.
